Going on a colon cleanse? The colon processes about 5 pounds of waste every day. Doing a colon cleanse is an effective way of eliminating waste, promoting quick weight loss, and maintaining better colon health. While there are many ways of purging the colon, the most convenient way of cleansing the colon is to take a colon cleanser such as Super Colon Cleanse.
Licorice root stimulates the production of digestive fluids and bile, soothes ulcers, helps reduce intestinal inflammation, and supports the healthy function of the kidneys, liver and bladder. Its action in soothing ulcers is unique. Rather than inhibiting the release of acid, licorice stimulates the normal defense mechanisms that prevent ulcer formation in the first place. Specifically, licorice improves both the quality and quantity of the protective substances that line the intestinal tract; increases the life span of intestinal cells; and improves blood supply to the intestinal lining.40
The colon plays a vital role in how your body processes food. As your digestive system breaks down the food you eat, it enters into the colon in a mostly liquid state. The colon performs two significant roles at this stage of the digestive process. First, bacteria in your colon break down the food further. Second, it absorbs additional nutrients and liquid. Leftover food waste is then turned into feces and stored in the descending colon until it is ready to be expelled from the body.
A diet high in refined carbohydrates and low in fibre reduces the number of friendly bacteria in the intestines, upsetting the balance of the body’s intestinal ecosystem. Yogurt, kefir and other fermented foods such as miso and sauerkraut can replenish friendly bacteria. Bifidobacteria are most numerous in the colon, while Lactobacilli prevail in the small intestine. These beneficial bacteria synthesize vitamins from food remnants, degrade toxins, prevent colonization of disease-causing micro- organisms, crowd out less beneficial bacteria, stimulate the immune system and produce short-chain fatty acids that provide an energy source for cells lining the colon.
As a former medical examiner, I'm in agreement with the protocols suggested. Question: Given the toxic environment of most people's colons etc., can the sudden or even gradual removal of toxins exacerbate health problems in people with "leaky gut"...wherein great amounts of toxic materials, once mobilized...enter the blood stream suddenly and potentially cause anxiety, depression or even damage vital organs?
I have had Crohn's disease for almost 40 years. For the last decade it's been fairly well controlled re: gastric symptoms via diet and low-dose naltrexone (LDN) -- though my immune system problems are not. After two surgeries long ago I'm missing a good-sized chunk of my small intestine. As I have a short bowel I have AT LEAST two bowels movements a day, very often three, sometimes four (usually not diarrhea). My colon has not been involved in the disease.
As for exorcising dietary demons, any ‘evidence’ is likely to be psychosomatic. The head of Flinders University’s department of human physiology, Professor Simon Brookes, doesn’t dispute that some patients do feel lighter, or cleansed after a good ol’ rinse, but he pins it on a placebo effect. “…there is absolutely no medical evidence that it carries any benefits at all,” says Prof Brookes.
These “Frankenfoods” are loaded with artificial ingredients that have names you can’t even pronounce. And they’re missing one key ingredient – fiber. So they sit in your gut for days or even weeks, fermenting and rotting instead of digesting and providing nutrients. Constipation, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, bloating and weight gain are just some of the results. During a colon cleanse, large amounts of water — sometimes up to 16 gallons (about 60 liters) — and possibly other substances, such as herbs or coffee, are flushed through the colon. This is done using a tube that's inserted into the rectum. In some cases, smaller amounts of water are used and are left to sit in the colon for a short time before being removed.
Colon cleanse proponents attribute a variety of health problems to poor colon health. They claim that eating unhealthy foods causes toxins and fat to stick to the walls of your intestines, causing weight gain and poor health. Eating foods with preservatives, additives, artificial dyes, sweeteners and fats causes your colon to build up toxins. The purpose of a colon cleanse is to sweep away these toxic chemicals and eliminate waste to help you lose weight.
I have been getting about 2 colonics each month for almost 8 years. It started when I had to go to the ER because I hadn’t gone number 2 in 3 weeks. Loooong story short, after following all the doctor’s instructions I still couldn’t go. The doctor said that the next step was surgery. That’s when I got desperate. I was in Las Vegas and went to the same place as the earlier reader (where they give you home made soup at the end). They saved my butt (literally)! I am so grateful that colonics exist for people who can’t go regularly, especially when bowel surgery is a real option. A few tips before getting a colonic would be to avoid anything that gives you gas, take a good probiotic supplement, drink a lot of water, and don’t eat 2 hours prior. While you’re getting the colonic: RELAX and BREATHE, let go of the physical and emotional waste, and remember that what comes out is better out of your body than in. Enjoy!
I had pain in my right back when I lay down to sleep. I thought it was just below where the liver should be. I thought it might be my gallbladder. Next day I took dandelion root caps. One three times a day. After three weeks I passed many black, pea sized round hard stones in my stool.. I removed a few & opened them. They were white inside. I thought they were little gallstones. No more pain in the back & has never returned. I would recommend this for anyone with similar symptoms.
The colon is an intricate part of the large intestine. Also called the large bowel, your large intestine connects the small intestine to the anus. The four major components of the large intestine are the cecum, colon, rectum, and anal canal. The colon is tubular shaped and connects the cecum to the rectum. It has several layers of muscle and fat with a mucous membrane as its inner lining. The “U” shaped colon subdivides into four sections—the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, and sigmoid colon. On average, the colon is around five feet long in adults and takes up the majority of space inside the abdominal cavity.

This depends on your symptoms but generally you should commit to a cleanse once or twice a year, under the care of a health professional. Post-antibiotic treatment is a must, as you need to nourish the gut and replace all of the healthy bacteria that’s been wiped out by antibiotics. After holidays is also a good time to cleanse as alcohol and treat foods wreak havoc on gut bacteria and gut lining. Post-cleanse you should continue to include gut-friendly foods and nutrients as a part of your regular diet.
I have suffered with IBS for approximately 20 years, I’ve managed it through diet and cutting down on alcahol and spicy foods. In the past few years I’ve been treated for Diverticulitus (3 times) and just finished medication. II’ve undergone all the tests going and I’m keen to learn more about how to keep your bowel healthy, so any information will be apprciated.
You should eat the easiest to digest foods first in each meal, and slowly move towards the more complex. Think of a highway; if the slowest cars are in front they’ll hold up the faster vehicles behind them and cause a traffic jam. The same goes for your food. Eat those fastest to digest first, and save the tougher to digest foods for the second half of your meal.
If you are struggling to lose weight I’d also recommend a cleanse. The latest research suggests that an unbalanced and unhealthy gut microbiome, caused by a poor diet and overuse of antibiotics, produces toxins called lipopolysaccharides (LPS), triggering inflammation and insulin resistance, which then promotes weight gain. We often we focus on kilojoules for weight loss, but the truth is, without a healthy gut, weight loss can be a battle.
