A diet high in refined carbohydrates and low in fibre reduces the number of friendly bacteria in the intestines, upsetting the balance of the body’s intestinal ecosystem. Yogurt, kefir and other fermented foods such as miso and sauerkraut can replenish friendly bacteria. Bifidobacteria are most numerous in the colon, while Lactobacilli prevail in the small intestine. These beneficial bacteria synthesize vitamins from food remnants, degrade toxins, prevent colonization of disease-causing micro- organisms, crowd out less beneficial bacteria, stimulate the immune system and produce short-chain fatty acids that provide an energy source for cells lining the colon.

There are several foods that are recommended time and time again by nutritionists for those who wish to follow a colon cleanse diet. The first component is usually quite heavy on raw fruits and vegetables. A raw juice diet is thought by many to be one of the best ways to take in as many nutrients as possible. This gives you all the nutrition of the vegetables and fruits, but without pulp and fibers that take time to digest. This gives the colon time to process everything that is being put into it. This can be a good colon cleanse diet as well for anyone who wants to fast, but needs to have some nutrition still.

Let’s think about what this means. You have several pounds of retained waste in your colon if you aren’t eliminating properly. Normally poop is made up of 75 percent water and 25 percent solid waste. The solid waste consists of dead bacteria, indigestible food matter, cholesterol and other fats, cell debris, and inorganic material. It gets its color from bile pigments and broken down blood cells. Bacterial action is responsible for the smell.

The lymph vessels are a network of capillaries that filter blood impurities; they contain a clear, colorless fluid called lymph. Lymph passes from capillaries to lymph vessels and flows through lymph nodes that are located along the course of these vessels. Cells of the lymph nodes phagocytize, or ingest, impurities such as bacteria, old red blood cells, and toxic, cellular waste. Lymph fluid can also collect other impurities such as heavy metals, pesticides, and drug residues stored in bodily tissue.

Your intestinal tract is the source of all nutrient access to your body. If it isn't working properly, you have two major problems. First, you have a hard time digesting food--breaking it down sufficiently so that your body can use it. And then, even if you can digest it properly, if the intestinal wall is covered with hardened mucous and/or colonies of hostile bacteria, you'll end up absorbing only a fraction of the nutritional value of the food you eat. Natural Colon Cleansing: Is It Necessary?
This savory fruit is high in monounsaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids. These rich oils lubricate the intestinal walls and prevent toxins from clinging to the surface. What doesn’t become stuck eventually gets flushed out. On top of that, the fruit’s high magnesium and potassium content prevent constipation by drawing water into your digestive system.
Each of these is unique, and each requires a different protocol. And they have nothing in common with "detox shampoos" and "detox water," which are, in fact, nonsensical. Then again, can't this same criticism be leveled at the medical community? Consider the term "evidence based medicine," which the medical community loves to claim as its defining principle. Hasn't it too been rendered largely meaningless considering that, according to a study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, only 11% of physicians actually rely on evidenced based medicine for all their treatments?1 It would seem that the medical critics of detoxing are not familiar with John 8:7, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
Colon detoxing and intestinal cleansing are the foundation for other phases of the full body detox because if the intestinal tract (and drain pipe) is clogged, many of the toxins being dumped by your liver will back up into your bloodstream, making you feel very unwell, learn more. So, if you are going to do a full body detox, you must start here, with a colon cleanse.

Proponents of colon cleansing believe that toxins from your gastrointestinal tract can cause a variety of health problems, such as arthritis and high blood pressure. They believe that colon cleansing improves health by removing toxins, boosting your energy and enhancing your immune system. However, there's no evidence that colon cleansing produces these effects or is beneficial at all.
A colon cleanse makes your digestive system more effective, as when it is cleansed it begins to expel undigested waste from your system, clearing up the space so that nutrients can be more easily absorbed in the future. If waste stays in your body for too long, it can end up causing illness from breeding bacteria and a clean colon detox will allow undigested waste to easily pass through your system.
Drink more water. Water, plain and simple, will make everything in your body function better, including your digestion and elimination. Don't worry about the old advice that you should drink eight, 8-ounce glasses a day. Instead, use the color of your urine as a guide. If it's pale yellow or straw-colored, you're getting enough water. If it's any darker than this, drink up!

That's my question too...I have read so many articles and books on this and what you can take; I am too confused. Just too many supplements etc that I would never be able to afford it plus it's hard on me to take too many supplements or my stomach is constantly sick. I had my gallbladder out 3 months ago and stones taken out of bile duct. I have been in bed ever since. I tried not to have the surgery but it became an emergency situation. I feel like I can't go to the bathroom and I don't go sometimes for weeks. That was before surgery and after since I was a child. I read for digestion enzymes I should have lipase, bromelin, and amylase then of course a good probiotic. I have several autoimmune diseases and the list of things are endless that are suggested for me. I know I need D, B12 injections, magnesium, and the fatty omega 3. I decide to start on this for now. I need a colon cleanse in the worst way but as the girl just mentioned isn't there something that has all these ingredients. It is so complicated for the normal person to understand everything we need to buy to accomplish our goals of a Cleese. I have to do something soon. I don't want to spent my life feeling as if I can't walk again because I'm seriously carrying two bowling balls around in my stomach. It looks like this and also feels like it. My back is killing me. I've gained 60 pounds mostly all in my stomach. It's hard and doesn't even look like fat. Please advise on the easiest way to accomplish my goal with the least amount of buying so many things and trying to remember to take them all. I can't remember all this. I'd like to buy a cleanse that someone with ADD can follow easily.
A homemade colon cleanse can help flush out some of the toxins in your body that could be contributing to your discomfort and also offer natural relief from constipation. Just plan a day when you do not need to leave home so that you are able to adjust to the colon cleansing changes in your body and the elimination of waste as you begin the detox and internal cleansing process.
Another way to distinguish between a colon cleanse diet and Colon Health and some other types of detox diets is what you are not allowed to have. It’s generally advised to shy away from dairy products, refined sugars of any sort, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, or anything else that is less than pure, whole, raw foods. This should be accompanied by plenty of water. Dehydration is often a major factor in how well the colon functions, because without adequate moisture, food or waste products may be more likely to cling to the colon walls, rather than passing through.

Increasing both soluble and insoluble fiber can help with a wide range of gastrointestinal problems, including constipation, diverticular disease, and colorectal cancer. The typical American consumes about 15 grams a day, but you need closer to 25 grams to 30 grams. If there are no gluten issues, add sources of both insoluble fiber, such as cereal and whole grains, and soluble fiber, such as bran, some fruit, some vegetables, and oatmeal.
