I know exactly what you mean about feeling “cleaner.” I don’t know if it’s a mental thing or if it’s physical — but there is definitely this sense of cleansed. 🙂 I am definitely looking forward to my next session. Every six months actually sounds like a good idea. I am so glad to know someone else that has actually done this and has something great to say! So far I’ve just been getting a lot of raised eyebrows. 😉
If you like the idea of "cleansing" your body, and of course, doing so safely, you need look no further than the produce and bulk food aisles of your local grocery store. Part of why so many people are plagued with a bloated, constipated feeling, the very feeling that leads them to consider colon cleansing, is a poor diet. Without proper nutrients, natural whole foods, and plenty of fiber and water, the digestive tract doesn't function optimally.
Aside from juice or vegetable-rich diets, there are other foods that are often included within a colon cleanse diet Whole grains are a good way to bulk up internal waste and help move it out of the system in a quick and efficient manner. This includes brown rice, sprouted wheat, and grains such as amaranth and quinoa that are easy to digest yet provide essential energy. It’s recommended when on a colon cleanse diet to stay away from excessive spices or too many ingredients. Raw, whole foods tend to be the best way to go for purifying and detoxifying your system.
There is an old saying that “death begins in the colon.” This is an oversimplification, to be sure, but more accurate than not. In fact, the road to health begins with colon detoxing—pretty much no matter what the disease or problem. Unfortunately, most people confine their understanding of the colon detox to its effect on fecal matter. And while it is true that cleansing programs do draw old fecal matter out of the colon, limiting the discussion to this misses the big picture.
Fruits and berries provide water, fiber, and antioxidants. Apples, bananas, and strawberries are a great place to start, and you may already have them at home. Each of these can provide a significant portion of your daily fiber needs. Citrus fruits like oranges and lemons are also a great digestive aid and give you a vitamin C boost. Dried fruits like prunes and cranberries can also be beneficial for your colon and act as natural laxatives.[6]
Psyllium seeds and husks are rich in soluble fiber and have long been used to ease constipation and digestive system upset. As the University of Maryland Medical Center says, "Many well designed studies have shown that psyllium relieves constipation. When combined with water, it swells and produces more bulk, which stimulates the intestines to contract and helps speed the passage of stool through the digestive tract. Psyllium is widely used as a laxative in Asia, Europe, and North America."26 Studies show that in addition to increasing stool weight, supplementing with psyllium seed husk produces stools that are slick and gelatinous. Psyllium is unique in contrast with other viscous fibers. It is resistant to fermentation, whereas other soluble fibers tend to ferment in the colon. That's a significant advantage. Researchers also observed that psyllium seed gel provides lubrication that facilitates the propulsion of colon contents and produces a stool that is bulkier and moister than are stools produced when using comparable amounts of other bowel-regulating fiber sources. The bottom line is that studies have shown that an unfermented gel component of psyllium seed husk promotes laxation as a lubricant in humans.27
If any of these symptoms occur, stop your cleanse immediately and see your doctor. These symptoms have the risk of leading to heart failure and digestive damage if the cleanse is continued. An enema or colon cleanse used occasionally poses little risk for a healthy individual. But overuse can quickly lead to chronic constipation or even bowel injury.

When you take a probiotic to try to restore the balance and feed your microbiome, a dose much larger than what’s recommended on the bottle is needed to be effective. This is one of the reasons why Flora-Key comes as a powder and not in capsules, to make it easier to reach the doses you need to promote healthy digestion and good moods. Once your microbiome is restored to health, moods are stable, digestion moves smoothly, and because toxins are being eliminated, weight loss becomes much easier.
Everything you need for detoxifying your body is available in your local grocery store if not already in your fridge. You don’t need to book an expensive appointment at a health spa or anything of that sorts. Food provides the natural pathway to detoxification. We’ll identify the top eight natural colon cleansing foods that do wonders for your digestive health. You probably already eat one or more of these items on a daily basis, so you’re partially on track without realizing it.

Apple juice: Considered one of the best home remedies for colon cleansing, drinking fresh apple juice encourages bowel movements, breaks down toxins, and improves the health of the liver as well as the digestive system. Drinking freshly squeezed apple juice followed by a glass of water 30 minutes later for at least three days can help cleanse the colon.

Your intestinal tract is the source of all nutrient access to your body. If it isn't working properly, you have two major problems. First, you have a hard time digesting food--breaking it down sufficiently so that your body can use it. And then, even if you can digest it properly, if the intestinal wall is covered with hardened mucous and/or colonies of hostile bacteria, you'll end up absorbing only a fraction of the nutritional value of the food you eat.
There are many powdered and liquid supplements available that help in cleansing your colon. They include magnesium, enzymes, herbal teas, and laxatives (27). Some of these supplements are to be taken orally, while some need to be taken via the rectum. However, it is recommended that you consult your doctor before taking supplements for colon cleansing.
