It should be noted that the medical community probably has more trouble with the concept of detoxing than with any other aspect of alternative health and is frequently attacking it. Back in 2009, for example, a report by Voice of Young Science blasted detoxing and found it to be largely nonsense. But in fact, as I explained at the time, the report, was itself largely nonsense. The researchers chose the widest definition possible for detoxing including detox shampoos and spa therapies in their analysis, and they used very little science to back their claims--mostly personal opinion. The one valid point they did make is that the word "detox" has become so widely used that it has lost much of its meaning. That is true, and that's why I always clarify what kind of detoxing I'm referring to such as: Comparison of colon-cleansing methods in preparation for colonoscopy

For a detox diet to truly work, you need to maintain these three key organs by nourishing your body with the right nutrients. Dr. Oz’s 48-Hour Weekend Cleanse is based upon eating certain “detoxifying” foods that will keep these systems running smoothly. The plan couldn’t be simpler to follow so you’re not always focused on what to eat next. You'll need to prepare and eat the following meals and snacks two days in a row. To get ready for the weekend cleanse, print out the complete cleanse shopping list and make a trip to the supermarket. Get the shopping list here.

There has been a great misconception among the public and most medical professionals about how often a normal healthy person should move their bowels. For years, doctors have thought that anywhere between one bowel movement a day and one a week was normal. (Unfortunately, that's probably the norm for the doctors who think that.) However, what we have learned in the holistic community is that it is normal, and necessary, to have one bowel movement a day for each major meal (as opposed to a snack) you ate the day before. If you eat three major meals, you should have three bowel movements the next day. If you don't, you're not alone.
What's pizza made of? White flour and cheese. White flour and water is used to make wallpaper paste. And cheese (casein), at one time, was the primary ingredient in Elmer's Glue (thus Elmer's picture on the front). Ergo, when you eat pizza, you're eating wallpaper paste and Elmer's Glue -- a real stick to your "ribs" kind of meal. Is it any wonder it doesn't pass through your colon cleanly and easily?

The gut is the basis of our health – it’s the first line of defense against pathogens, it’s where we digest and absorb nutrients and where we house our gut microbes, also known as gut bacteria. Poor gut health is now thought to be strongly linked to a compromised immune system, malnutrition and poor mood regulation, and plays a role in arthritis and obesity, according to a recent review of scientific literature published in the journal BMC Medicine.

Mucoid plaque is not actually a recognized scientific term, but is used to describe any hardened materials that are “cemented” to the walls of the colon. That said, a good colon detoxifier product has natural mucilaginous properties that will soften old hardened fecal matter and any plaque-like material adhering to the walls of the colon for easy removal and also provide an excellent remedy for any inflammation or irritation in the stomach and intestines.
The main ingredient of Super Colon Cleanse is senna leaf powder, a stimulant that facilitates contractions throughout the colon. These contractions help move waste along, to be excreted by the body. The lack of contractions in the colon can lead to the build-up of fecal matter and cause constipation. If the body does not excrete the fecal matter and waste immediately, it could lead to a variety of serious conditions.
If any of these symptoms occur, stop your cleanse immediately and see your doctor. These symptoms have the risk of leading to heart failure and digestive damage if the cleanse is continued. An enema or colon cleanse used occasionally poses little risk for a healthy individual. But overuse can quickly lead to chronic constipation or even bowel injury.
Also, I suffer from a inherited condition that is called Peutz Jeghers syndrome which caused polyps to grow and they were removed by surgery about 30 years ago. I think it caused intestinal adhesion because it can take a long time to see watery stool after taking epsom salts when i did a liver flush (Moritz, haven’t done yours or any others yet as it did go well with this Moritz flush) I had to take pretty much of the epsom salts and that made me feel ill.
Would I recommend colon hydrotherapy? Absolutely. I think that it is a worthwhile endeavour. It’s virtually painless and it’s a therapeutic experience for your body & spirit. I do expect that I will make a habit of having a session every few years. Of course, my one big recommendation is to keep probiotics on-hand and enjoy a nice big bowl of yogurt after your session.

The key causative factor, of course, (aside from organic disease) is lack of fiber in your diet -- the more fiber, the faster the transit time of waste through the intestinal tract. Even with all the attention fiber gets in relation to healthy evacuation, it is still MIA in many daily meals. So let's look what you're eating in terms of transit time:
Just a note to tell you that I found Ms. Galivan’s comments truly offensive and misleading. Clearly, she knows nothing about UNI KEY nor the mission of the founder who is a stage IV cancer survivor. I hope this poster is aware that there is a free of charge FB page in which expert advice is generously given on a variety of non-UNI KEY product issues and concerns. NOBODY in the business offers this type of service. I think Galivan’s comments were very out of line. What good is identifying an issue without providing the solution, for heaven’s sake? As a nutritional professional myself, I would never recommend a product with 50 billion CFUs which is a recipe for constipation if ever there was one. In addition, I would never have the gall to post the name of a competing product on UNI KEY’s site, either. How rude and spiteful.
I am a current fitness competitor and I’m prepping for a show on June 30th.. t Minus 24 days. I have very bad constipation, and blaotinh from my caloric deficit which is not showing my stomach as it should due to build up.. which I have in my head. Will this help or hinder my progress? K can’t afgord to hold water weight as I’m cutting for stage.. I feel it would clean me out and make my stomach flatter along with feeling better. What are your thoughts?
“I DID IT TO FEEL BETTER & IT WORKED! Before using UNI KEY’s Colon Cleanse…I felt horrible all the time. I knew I was eating all the wrong foods and I continued to do so. I had horrible migraines all the time. 3 weeks into the program I feel amazing! Absolutely amazing! I lost 10 lbs the first full week. I went from a size 22 to a 16 and I continue to lose weight…I wanted to do the cleanse not for weight loss, but to feel better. Now I feel fantastic!” – Bonita O.
Sea salt: A common seasoning ingredient, sea salt is full of detoxifying properties. Mixing one tablespoon of sea salt in water and boiling it, then letting it cool, can be a great way to utilize the detoxifying properties of sea salt. However, too much salt water can cause diarrhea, so it is important to drink plenty of water and fresh juices throughout the day.
Many doctors, nutritionists, and natural health practitioners advocate the benefits of detoxifying and cleansing your colon as a way to improve your overall health and wellbeing. Over time, the large intestine becomes exposed to various toxins that have been gathered through environmental factors, as well as less-than-ideal diets that are packed with refined sugars and meats full of hormones. Because of this, the colon begins to secrete a mucus which then physically traps the toxins within your body. The longer that you are exposed to these toxins, the more chances you have of growing unwell. Colon Cleansers are a great way to help flush the toxins from your system, allowing you to free up the space within your colon to allow the better absorption of nutrients from your food.
When you are constipated, your body recycles everything it can. Bile is a precious commodity, so that toxic bile gets circulated back to the liver to be re-used, and congests the liver in the process. Fluids are extracted from the waste and processed through the kidneys, putting strain on the kidneys to filter all that wastewater. In the process of extracting the fluid, the waste sitting in your colon becomes hard, dry, and compacted, making it harder to move through. This means toxins are accumulating, which are then shuttled to fat cells to be stored since they can’t be eliminated, and this causes not just water weight and bloating, but also fat gain.

Plant-based diets containing generous amounts of vegetables, fruits, beans, seeds, nuts and whole grains are high in fibre, which is the essential, non-digestible component of food. A high-fibre diet supports a healthy digestive tract by sweeping debris from the colon, much like a broom. Fibre exercises the intestinal tract by stimulating peristalsis, the wave-like muscular contractions of the bowel that decrease bowel transit time. Fibre also holds moisture in the colon, softening the stool.

Another way to distinguish between a colon cleanse diet and Colon Health and some other types of detox diets is what you are not allowed to have. It’s generally advised to shy away from dairy products, refined sugars of any sort, alcohol, caffeine, nicotine, or anything else that is less than pure, whole, raw foods. This should be accompanied by plenty of water. Dehydration is often a major factor in how well the colon functions, because without adequate moisture, food or waste products may be more likely to cling to the colon walls, rather than passing through.

The colon performs many essential functions; it doesn’t only aid in the elimination of stool but also extracts salt and water from waste before excreting it, maintains pH and fights against harmful bacteria. The malfunctioning of the colon can cause serious health implications such as skin allergies, gallbladder stones, heart diseases, etc. Many have found that performing a colon cleanse is an easy preventative to avoid colon problems in the future.
Psyllium seeds and husks are rich in soluble fiber and have long been used to ease constipation and digestive system upset. As the University of Maryland Medical Center says, "Many well designed studies have shown that psyllium relieves constipation. When combined with water, it swells and produces more bulk, which stimulates the intestines to contract and helps speed the passage of stool through the digestive tract. Psyllium is widely used as a laxative in Asia, Europe, and North America."26 Studies show that in addition to increasing stool weight, supplementing with psyllium seed husk produces stools that are slick and gelatinous. Psyllium is unique in contrast with other viscous fibers. It is resistant to fermentation, whereas other soluble fibers tend to ferment in the colon. That's a significant advantage. Researchers also observed that psyllium seed gel provides lubrication that facilitates the propulsion of colon contents and produces a stool that is bulkier and moister than are stools produced when using comparable amounts of other bowel-regulating fiber sources. The bottom line is that studies have shown that an unfermented gel component of psyllium seed husk promotes laxation as a lubricant in humans.27

Hello, I empathize with your concerns re. 14 yr. old daughter.I am an RN in Alternative Medicine, clinical nutritionist and specialized Kinesiologist in private practice for 30 yrs. lectured, taught, been published, and honored by various societies. Get her off all sugars firstly, they are the worst items for the body and can cause insulin resistance. No artificial sweetners or processed foods or high carb foods. She probably has sugar cravings, and there is something to prevent that.Lack of energy can be due to thyroid, not good to use synthetic thyroid meds, low iron, adrenal exhaustion, and certain mineral depletions, imbalance in hormones, but also, the poor condition of her body, can result in missed menses Body can not deal with this natural function in this state. Limit fruits to lo glycemic 3 times a week, good food but too much natural sugar, no processed foods, fresh veg. and clean protein. Cannot give information relative to what could help her or cleansing wise in email, but if you wish, phone to talk. I muscle test for any deficiencies or organ imbalance, allergies, structural components, and exactly which product where to get and how much, how long 530 544 8557. A diet high in refined carbohydrates and low in fibre reduces the number of friendly bacteria in the intestines, upsetting the balance of the body’s intestinal ecosystem. Yogurt, kefir and other fermented foods such as miso and sauerkraut can replenish friendly bacteria. Bifidobacteria are most numerous in the colon, while Lactobacilli prevail in the small intestine. These beneficial bacteria synthesize vitamins from food remnants, degrade toxins, prevent colonization of disease-causing micro- organisms, crowd out less beneficial bacteria, stimulate the immune system and produce short-chain fatty acids that provide an energy source for cells lining the colon.
If you are experiencing “brain fog,” depression, anxiety, or mood swings, it could be all in your gut. Up to 95 percent of your body’s neurotransmitters like serotonin are made – and used – in your gut. When you eat processed foods, your body has to use its own nutrient stores just to break that food down, so it causes a net loss in nutrients, with no gain. This process uses up magnesium and potassium, 2 very important nutrients that help your food move through your digestive system. The end results are constipation and nutrient deficiencies.

There are lots of herbal supplements on the market that can be used to support a gut cleanse, but there are also great 'everyday' herbs you can add to your food that will help support cleansing of the gut. Try fennel seeds, which aid in elimination of mucus buildup and relieves gas. Peppermint is soothing for any digestive upset and helps alleviate bloating. Oregano has both anti-viral and anti-fungal properties. If you suspect you may have an overgrowth of yeast or fungus (a common issue!) it's important to address it by including some herbs to your gut-cleansing plan.
That's my question too...I have read so many articles and books on this and what you can take; I am too confused. Just too many supplements etc that I would never be able to afford it plus it's hard on me to take too many supplements or my stomach is constantly sick. I had my gallbladder out 3 months ago and stones taken out of bile duct. I have been in bed ever since. I tried not to have the surgery but it became an emergency situation. I feel like I can't go to the bathroom and I don't go sometimes for weeks. That was before surgery and after since I was a child. I read for digestion enzymes I should have lipase, bromelin, and amylase then of course a good probiotic. I have several autoimmune diseases and the list of things are endless that are suggested for me. I know I need D, B12 injections, magnesium, and the fatty omega 3. I decide to start on this for now. I need a colon cleanse in the worst way but as the girl just mentioned isn't there something that has all these ingredients. It is so complicated for the normal person to understand everything we need to buy to accomplish our goals of a Cleese. I have to do something soon. I don't want to spent my life feeling as if I can't walk again because I'm seriously carrying two bowling balls around in my stomach. It looks like this and also feels like it. My back is killing me. I've gained 60 pounds mostly all in my stomach. It's hard and doesn't even look like fat. Please advise on the easiest way to accomplish my goal with the least amount of buying so many things and trying to remember to take them all. I can't remember all this. I'd like to buy a cleanse that someone with ADD can follow easily.

The following Q&A from our FAQ section on doing a Liver/Gallbladder cleanse addresses this issue. 13. I did not see stones in the toilet, why is that? We have heard from many people that they have seen "horrible" things floating in the toilet. But many notice nothing. That's not unusual. In many cases the stones are too small to notice -- or too few. Also, using the psyllium, which makes the elimination of waste much easier, tends to encapsulate and makes things harder to see. Another thing to keep in mind is that people often confuse the little "soap" beads that the body can make out of the olive oil as stones. On the other hand, the fact the body often produces "soap stones" doesn't mean that it isn't also flushing real gallstones. In the end, though, it's not what you see, it's how you feel. Wait for a few days after the cleanse and then evaluate. Do you feel lighter and cleaner? Is your breathing a little easier, less mucousy? Does food taste better? Etc. These are the tangible results you're after. Or if nothing else, were you able to break some bad eating habits or lose some of that extra weight you picked up over the holidays? That said, are you doing the stone softening program that Jon Barron recommends before doing your flush? This helps make the program more effective. Also, you refer to an apple juice flush. This makes me wonder if you are following a different version of the flush or protocol than we recommend on this site. If so, then you probably need to check with the people who recommend that protocol to figure out how to maximize its effectiveness.

Do not use if safety seal is broken. Do not exceed recommended daily intake. Do not use if you are pregnant or nursing. Not intended for use by persons under 18 years of age. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. This product is not intended to be used without breaks. Cascara sagrada belongs to a family of plants containing compounds with laxative effects. With long-term use without breaks, this ingredient may interfere with diagnostic imaging procedures of the colon. Taking a break of 30 or more days between use cycles will help maintain natural regularity. Not intended for long-term use.,
For decades health practitioners have been recommending gut cleanses to enhance their patient’s health and wellbeing. But this clinical concept has been given a bad rap from cleanses that promise a quick fix but don’t give the body the nutrients they need. My opinion as a qualified, practising nutritionist is that, when done right, a gut cleanse is an essential step towards optimal gut health.
Maybe that’s because of the days prior to the flush day has to be well prepared to have succes on the flush day. I therefore have difficulty finding a good protocol for someone with bowel issues/adrenal fatigue (bloating, constipation, gas; all due to adrenal and thyroid issues that cause metabolic and endocrine problems and of course the Peutz Jeghers syndrome)

Flaxseeds are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids, fiber, and antioxidants. The daily consumption of flaxseeds is a sure shot way to cleanse your colon due to the combined laxative effect of its compounds. While the omega-3s are wonderful for your overall health, the antioxidants and fiber in flaxseeds can help increase your bowel movements to get rid of all the toxins from your body (21), (22), (23).
Although common colon cleansing procedures help you lose weight, they carry risks. Dr. Michael Picco, a gastroenterologist at the Mayo Clinic, says that colon cleansing can cause bowel perforations, infections and dehydration. The procedure may not be appropriate for people with kidney disease, heart disease and other chronic medical problems. Conventional medicine practitioners also note that your body naturally eliminates toxins, making colon cleansing unnecessary as a detoxification method. Discuss the risks of colon cleansing with a doctor to determine whether it is a safe choice for you.
It also uses more neurotransmitters to digest and process this junk food, leading to an imbalance in your “feel good” hormones, if not a deficiency. When you are under stress, these hormones are signaled by the brain to “speed up” and this chemical surge causes everything from anxiety, insomnia, trouble swallowing, and the “butterflies” in your stomach, to diarrhea, cramping, and neurotransmitter deficiencies.

A person who does a cleanse may initially lose a few pounds, but that is a temporary loss, resulting from the removal of water weight and stool, and not from a permanent loss of fat. Although it could be motivating to see results on the scale for a few days, cleansing is not a long-term solution to a weight problem, Wolf said. [5 Experts Answer: Is There Such Thing as a Healthy Juice Cleanse?]

Apple pectin can be used to remove unwanted metals and toxins, lower cholesterol30 and to help reduce the side effects of radiation therapy. In fact, it was used after Chernobyl to pull radioactive waste from victims.31 Apple pectin also helps to break down the build-up of mucus and binds to various toxic metals such as mercury,32 lead, etc. And apple pectin is also another good source of soluble fiber. It has the ability to form a gel that can bind water and toxins together, thus also bulking the stool and carrying the toxins out of the body.

A gut cleanse is essentially eating a clean diet of unprocessed, unrefined gut-friendly foods as well as some gut-friendly supplements. For more serious health complaints, commit to a four-to six-week cleanse, for general wellness opt for two weeks. If you currently eating a high-sugar, low-vegetable diet, you may experience fatigue, a change in bowel motions, mental fogginess and skin eruptions. These symptoms tend to subside after three to five days.
And as if that were not enough, it has been estimated by some health experts that as many as 80 percent of Americans are afflicted with intestinal parasites. Many in the medical community would dispute this number, calling it far too high, and if you limit your discussion of parasites to things such as tapeworms and Chinese liver flukes, they are correct. But as soon as you open up to the true nature of the problem and include the lesser known, but far more prevalent, parasites such as Fasciolopsis buskii, the 80 percent figure begins to fall into line. And if you include pathogenic E. coli and Candida yeast overgrowths, then the 80 percent figure is decidedly conservative. Remember, the functional definition of a parasite is an organism that lives in or on another organism (its host) and benefits by deriving nutrients at the host's expense.
