Hi Sharon (and anyone else who reads this), just wondering if you got to visit your physician about your situation? I am curious because I have been researching whether I want to try this colonic or not. I really want to try, but when I read this, it concerned me. I am a relatively healthy person, and have always thought about trying this, but I wonder if a colonic can do harm to those who are healthier with less fecal matter in their intestines or is I am reading too far into this.

A typical colon cleanse involves dietary modification and the use of an herbal supplement. Most cleanse plans last 10 or more days. During the cleanse, a dieter eats small amounts of fruits and vegetables and avoids all processed foods. Taking psyllium husk or bentonite clay helps you move waste through your colon, increasing the frequency of your bowel movements. Apple cider vinegar has antioxidant and antibiotic properties that are quite beneficial for a healthy gut and colon (11). The antibiotic property of apple cider vinegar is due to the presence of a bacterium called acetobacter in it, which aids digestion and proper functioning of your gut. The acidic nature of apple cider vinegar increases the acid level in your stomach, eliminates toxins, and helps you lose weight (12).
Supplementation with Garcinia cambogia (Malabar tamarind) suppresses your appetite and increases your metabolism. This is mainly due to the presence of a compound called Hydroxycitric Acid (HCA). HCA has natural fat burning properties, which can help you shed the extra pounds. Garcinia cambogia not only helps to flush out all the toxins from your body but also prevents constipation and is good for your mental health as well (1), (2). Licorice root stimulates the production of digestive fluids and bile, soothes ulcers, helps reduce intestinal inflammation, and supports the healthy function of the kidneys, liver and bladder. Its action in soothing ulcers is unique. Rather than inhibiting the release of acid, licorice stimulates the normal defense mechanisms that prevent ulcer formation in the first place. Specifically, licorice improves both the quality and quantity of the protective substances that line the intestinal tract; increases the life span of intestinal cells; and improves blood supply to the intestinal lining.40
Poor diet and ineffective vitamin absorption can cause you to become distracted and lose your concentration. The buildup of mucous and toxins in your colon can keep your body from getting what it needs to function, even if you eat a consistently healthy diet. Cleansing the colon with a detox diet can be the difference between feeling alert and not being able to focus. This has far-reaching ramifications for work, your relationships, and your overall health.
Most people need to drink more water. Water is the universal solvent, and an insufficient amount of it causes constipation and toxicity in the bowel and kidneys. Physical activity, fever, hot or dry climates and consumption of meat and salty foods all increase the need for water. The optimal amount varies widely, usually from six to 10 glasses a day. One useful formula is to drink half your weight in ounces. For example, if you weigh 120 pounds (55 kilograms), drink 60 ounces (eight glasses/two litres) of water per day. This can include pure water, herb tea or diluted fruit juices. Caffeinated beverages do not count because they are dehydrating. The best time to drink a glass of water is between meals or 20 minutes or more before eating; sip only small amounts with a meal. An important rule is: When thirsty, drink water not pop or other beverages.
Your intestinal tract is the source of all nutrient access to your body. If it isn't working properly, you have two major problems. First, you have a hard time digesting food--breaking it down sufficiently so that your body can use it. And then, even if you can digest it properly, if the intestinal wall is covered with hardened mucous and/or colonies of hostile bacteria, you'll end up absorbing only a fraction of the nutritional value of the food you eat.
