I am curious because I have been researching whether I want to try this colonic or not. I really want to try, but when I read this, it concerned me. I am a relatively healthy person, and have always thought about trying this, but I wonder if a colonic can do harm to those who are healthier with less fecal matter in their intestines or is I am reading too far into this.

I have had Crohn's disease for almost 40 years. For the last decade it's been fairly well controlled re: gastric symptoms via diet and low-dose naltrexone (LDN) -- though my immune system problems are not. After two surgeries long ago I'm missing a good-sized chunk of my small intestine. As I have a short bowel I have AT LEAST two bowels movements a day, very often three, sometimes four (usually not diarrhea). My colon has not been involved in the disease.

Let’s think about what this means. You have several pounds of retained waste in your colon if you aren’t eliminating properly. Normally poop is made up of 75 percent water and 25 percent solid waste. The solid waste consists of dead bacteria, indigestible food matter, cholesterol and other fats, cell debris, and inorganic material. It gets its color from bile pigments and broken down blood cells. I was using iodized sea salt and took the time to juice everything else myself. Would have been nice if he specified this in the recipe. According to the medical community, it is normal to have a bowel movement anywhere from three times a day, to three times a week.9 Three times a week works out to once every two days. Our bodies, including our digestive system, slow down in the evening hours as they prepare to rest and rejuvenate. When we put food into our stomachs late in the evening, there are fewer digestive enzymes available to facilitate proper digestion. This can result in undigested food sitting in your stomach for long periods of time, which can result in a disturbed sleep.


Most people need to drink more water. Water is the universal solvent, and an insufficient amount of it causes constipation and toxicity in the bowel and kidneys. Physical activity, fever, hot or dry climates and consumption of meat and salty foods all increase the need for water. The optimal amount varies widely, usually from six to 10 glasses a day.
