Because your colon processes food waste, it is constantly bombarded by toxins. All of these foods contain high amounts of fiber, calcium, and vitamin D, which are great at keeping your digestive system working properly and preventing constipation. But if you’re not used to a diet rich in fiber or calcium, introducing lots of these types of foods at once can lead to gastrointestinal distress in the form of diarrhea, bloating, or constipation. In 1998, the FDA reclassified several herbal laxatives including senna, aloe, and cascara sagrada as category III, meaning they required further research. Processed foods typically contain a long list of additives and chemicals used to prolong shelf life and add texture or flavor. Avoid these whenever possible. Increasingly, additives, like emulsifiers, in processed foods have been linked to colon cancer and can cause constipation. The best way to avoid these additives, and other harmful chemicals, is buying certified organic foods that are raw or minimally processed.

Just a note to tell you that I found Ms. Galivan’s comments truly offensive and misleading. Clearly, she knows nothing about UNI KEY nor the mission of the founder who is a stage IV cancer survivor. NOBODY in the business offers this type of service. I think Galivan’s comments were very out of line. What good is identifying an issue without providing the solution, for heaven’s sake? As a nutritional professional myself, I would never recommend a product with 50 billion CFUs which is a recipe for constipation if ever there was one. In addition, I would never have the gall to post the name of a competing product on UNI KEY’s site, either. How rude and spiteful.
If you were to eat a whole grain such as rice, it would produce stools that are full of fiber and loose. When you eat the same grain ground up (say, rice bread, for example) it produces stool that is much more compact like clay. Clay-like stools are harder and more difficult to pass, and the pressure they put on your system can lead to constipation.
